Hello! Welcome to the drawers of my ideas.
This is where I share ideas that have seen the light, but also some that didn't get made, yet I’m still proud of them. Working in advertising isn’t just about what you can do. I feel like it’s more about the connection with others. People with different backgrounds and expertise, all working toward one thing. To me, that’s the most fun part of it.
I could list a bunch of things I care about or what I can do, but instead, I’d like to share a few short stories that show who I am. I’ll leave it up to you (hello ECDs and creative resource peeps!) to decide who I can be for your team. Here we go.
The guy who flipped JWT.
When I got a job at JWT, the merger with Wunderman was just happening. The Toronto office had a bit of makeover to freshen things up, but the layout was... questionable, I must say. Very distant seating, no collaborative spaces, and benches placed along windows facing inward.
One Friday evening, the office layout was "mysteriously" changed by... (cough cough). I just felt sad to see the space being wasted, so I moved the benches to face each other with a table in between, and moved stuff here and there. I did almost shit my pants when the VP emailed me on Monday morning,(idk how she knew it was me) but she and the rest of the office loved it! And I actually ended up helping with the office design after that.
Anything with food and drinks.Back in grade 9 or 10, I had a bit of a rebellious phase. Tons of opinions, curiosities, and I ended up living by myself for a year or so. Although I eventually realized my mom was right and I should have listened to her more, I learnt some useful skills. I learnt how to manage a budget and taught myself to cook by watching Jamie Oliver, and the interest in food and drinks eventually opened up into roasting coffee, working in kitchens, and pretty much anything related to food and drinks.
Tactile any day.
Since my uni days, I’ve been surrounded by loose papers and napkins filled with scribbles. From quirky ad ideas to random product designs. I’ve always loved the process of making things, improving things, and especially jotting ideas down on something tactile. That’s what I loved about woodworking during Covid. Putting my headphones on and working with wood felt like a meditation. It’s a different creative process than advertising, and it’s something I’d love to get back into.
